New
this week is a band-produced retrospective of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota's
favorite sons: The Unbelievable Uglies. A hugely popular stage act throughout
the '60s, the Uglies have frequently been comp'd, but this is the first
time their material has shown up in one place. "The Original Unbelievable
Uglies" is available at www. unbelievableuglies.com.
For
10 years now Radio Rumpus Room has been broadcast Fridays at 9-10:30 p.m.
on KFAI Fresh Air Radio, FM 90.3 Minneapolis and 106.7 St. Paul. The
show streams live on the Internet, and as always, our two most recent
shows are archived in their entirety in RealAudio. Just visit the
RRR web page anytime to listen to this noise and accompanying yakkin'
by Ron and Jean.

SAVVY
SHOW STARTER (always locally recorded!)
The Trashmen -- King Of The Surf/Baja (live)
This is
an audience recording of the Trashmen playing in Minneapolis around
1999, most likely downtown at the Fine Line Music Cafe. (I don't have
my notes in front of me and I'm too lazy to check right now.) It features
the original lineup (there never was any other) of Tony Andreason, Dal
Winslow and Bob Reed, with Tony's brother Mark handling the drums in
lieu of the late Steve Wahrer who died in 1990. When the Trashmen play
it's always "smiles all around"...
