AS ALWAYS we say thanks to the artists and labels responsible for producing tonight's music, and to the loyal listeners who encourage us to air it every week! (For eight years now, Radio Rumpus Room has been broadcast Fridays at 9-10:30 p.m. on KFAI Fresh Air Radio, FM 90.3 Minneapolis and 106.7 St. Paul. The show streams live on the Internet, and as always, our most recent show is archived in its entirety in RealAudio. Just link up through the RRR web page anytime to listen to this terrific noise and catch Jean and Ron spouting the usual half-truths and unsupported "statements of fact!") |
Playlist for Friday, November 22, 2002 Tonight's show was devoted to the local bands of Minneapolis' oft-celebrated "Longhorn Bar scene" of 1978-1980. A 500-person capacity club that barely concealed its origins as a downtown steakhouse, Jay's Longhorn on 14 S. 5th Street was also where all the punk and New Wave bands of the day came to play. These artists included the likes of Elvis Costello, Blondie, the Dead Boys, the Talking Heads, the B-52s, Iggy Pop, the Only Ones, the Police and many others -- but it was the local guitar heros like the Suicide Commandos, Curtiss A, and the Suburbs that we honored tonight. Honestly, we barely made a dent, and could have used another couple hours to do it up right! Suburbs
